FELMORES

Nevendon Bushes

Nevendon Bushes

Nevendon Bushes, named after the parish which the area lies in, is situated within the Felmores Estate.

Basildon Council suggest that this is an ancient woodland, evidenced by the presence of Wild Service trees. There are also oaks and ash trees.

There are several entrances on the estate as well as Burnt Mills Road, I entered through Bartlow Side (SS13 1NW) (Pictured right).

Just inside the Bartlow Side entrance was a pond. I would imagine that this dries up during the summer months. This contained a shopping trolley, ironing board and several pieces of wood. The whole area was scattered with rubbish.

There is a pond near the centre of the wood (N 51º34'54.9876º, E0º30'14.1264º), this was full of algae but being used by two ducks.

There was what appeared to be a ditch that lead to another pond but I think this was just formed by the ditch over-flowing.

The woods also contain two brick and concrete platforms. I don't know if something was on these in the past or they're part of the drainage system for the nearby housing.

There is a pathway around the area which has been laid by the council. I spent around 1 hour in there and only met 3 dog walkers. There are several worn paths leading around the woods but these don't tend to lead anywhere.

This site has no link with Basildon Council or any official links with any housing associations.  This site is wholly unofficial and created just to connect the residents of the Felmores Estate.
